Worlds of Fun: A Thrill for the Whole Family
New in 2006, the Patriot roller coaster at Worlds of Fun is an American scream. The Patriot is the longest, tallest, and fastest full-circuit inverted roller coaster in the region. Hanging beneath the track, riders climb a 149-foot lift hill, then plunge down a 123-foot curved drop going almost 60 mph. The Patriot is the perfect addition to Worlds of Fun's impressive line-up of thrill rides. Don't forget, the park offers mild kid-friendly rides and games, plus dozens of restaurants and food venues. Powell Gardens: A Refuge from the City
About 40 miles from KCCEC on Highway 50, Powell Gardens provides a refuge from the city. Spend part of your day in the Jurassic Garden, an exhibit featuring more than 20 dinosaur replicas. Then meander through 915 acres of horticultural displays, gardens, and meadows. The CafŽ Thyme offers light lunches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a gift shop offers unique items. Powell Gardens is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission, which includes the Jurassic Garden exhibit, is $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $3 for children 5 to 12, and free for children under 5.
